Playing style and strengths
Margaryta Pesotska represents modern, versatile and intelligent attacking table tennis. One of her greatest strengths is her technically complete backhand game. She can produce high-quality backhand shots with plenty of spin both close to the table and from mid-distance, making her dangerous from a wide range of positions.
Close to the table, Pesotska excels at taking the ball early and using her opponent’s pace to her advantage. Fast counters, precise blocks and active blocking allow her to absorb attacking pressure and immediately turn it into pressure of her own. At the same time, she has the control to stabilise a rally with secure backhand shots before accelerating again at the right moment.
Her backhand remains a major offensive weapon from mid-distance. With spin-heavy backhand topspins, she can play her way out of pressure, rebuild the rally and regain the initiative. The ability to switch between spin, pace, counter-attacking and blocking makes her backhand particularly versatile and difficult to predict.
However, Pesotska’s game is about much more than her backhand. She has a well-balanced and highly versatile attacking game and knows how to use her technical qualities tactically. Her game intelligence enables her to read opponents and situations quickly and adjust her strategy during a match. By deliberately varying pace, rhythm and placement, she makes it difficult for opponents to establish a comfortable playing pattern.
Precision, consistency and an excellent sense of when to attack are further strengths. Pesotska does not need to finish every point with her first offensive shot. She can construct rallies patiently, move her opponent through intelligent placement and recognise the right moment to increase the pressure.
