Playing style and strengths
Fan Bo Meng represents modern, dynamic and uncompromising attacking table tennis.
His trademark is his explosive backhand. With fast and powerful topspins, Fan Bo Meng can generate enormous pressure and take control of rallies at an early stage. At the same time, he possesses a very solid backhand block, allowing him to absorb his opponent’s pace and immediately turn it into an attack of his own. This makes him particularly dangerous in fast rallies close to the table.
But Fan Bo Meng’s game is not defined by his backhand alone. His forehand is equally capable of producing powerful topspins, while his ability to generate heavy spin repeatedly creates difficult situations for his opponents. As a left-hander, he cleverly uses unusual angles and trajectories to move his opponents out of position and open up space for the next attack. He often uses spin-heavy shots to set up the rally before following up with a fast and powerful attacking stroke.
His game thrives on the combination of speed, spin and power. Rather than relying solely on one decisive shot, Fan Bo Meng builds his attacks with purpose and increases the pressure from ball to ball. When he manages to take control of a rally early on, he can fully exploit his attacking qualities.
